Braden is a 1984 graduate. While at Teays Valley, he earned four Varsity letters, one in Cross Country and three in Wrestling. In Wrestling, he finished with a career record of 115 wins. Braden was team MVP in 1982, 1983, and 1984. In 1983 and 1984, Braden was named Pickaway County Wrestler of the Year.

He was a two time SCOL champion in his weight class, a district champion in 1984, and a regional champion in 1984. Braden was a Two Time State qualifier and placed fourth during the 1984 State Tournament.

In college, he attended and wrestled at Cuyahoga Community College for two years and Cleveland State University for two years. At Cuyahoga Community College, he was a Two Time National qualifier in 1985 and 1986. In 1985, he finished 4th in the Nation and was named an All-American. While at Cleveland State, he was a Two Time Division One National qualifier and earned the most team points during the 1988 season.
