Neil is a 1991 graduate of Teays Valley High School. While in High School, Neil earned four varsity letters, two each in Basketball and Baseball. During Neil’s junior year he played on Mid-State League championship teams in both Basketball and Baseball. As a Senior he earned First Team Mid-State League honors in both sports, Honorable Mention Central District in Basketball, First Team Central District in Baseball, and played in the Ohio All Star Baseball game. He was named the baseball team’s most valuable player his senior year and was one of the leading pitchers in Central Ohio. He finished the season with two no hitters, one perfect game, and 114 strikeouts.

After graduation, Neil attended Mt. Vernon Nazarene College and participated in their Baseball program as a pitcher for four years. He played on two Mid-Ohio Conference Championship teams, and in 1995 Mt. Vernon won the NCCAA National Championship. During his Junior year he earned First Team NCCAA All District honors. He finished his career with a 17-13 record, 218 strikeouts and 21 complete games.
