Taylor is a 2010 graduate of Teays Valley High School. He earned two varsity letters in cross country, one varsity letter in wrestling, one varsity letter in swimming, and three varsity letters in track. His cross country accomplishments include two time 1st Team All-County, All-MSL, All-Central District, and Individual Regional Qualifier. He was All-Region and State Qualifier in 2009 (first cross country state qualifiers for the first time in school history). Taylor helped Teays Valley win the first MSL championship in 14 years and regional qualifiers for the first time in division one. In track, Taylor was 1st Team All-League in 2010, 1st Team All-Central District in 2010 (800m Run), and Regional Qualifier in the 800m Run. He helped lead the track team to the MSL Championship.

Taylor attended Shawnee State University and earned three varsity letters in cross country and 4 varsity letters in track. He was a member of three Mid-South Conference championship teams in cross country. In track, two time NA/A National Qualifier, three time 1st Team Mid-South Conference, three time League Champion in 4x800. He currently holds the school record in the 4x400 and 4x800.
