Tyler is a 2010 graduate. He earned three varsity letters in cross country, three varsity letters in wrestling, and three varsity letters in track. His cross country accomplishments include two-time 1st team MSL, three-time 1st team 1st team All-county, two time 1st team all-central District and two-time individual regional qualifier. Tyler helped lead the boys cross country team to first Mid-State. League Championship in 14 years and the team qualified for regionals as a team for the first time since Teays Valley moved to Division 1. In track, Tyler was 1st team MSL in 2010 and was league runner-up in the 3200 meter run in 2010. He helped lead the track team to the Mid-state League championship in 2010.

Tyler attended Shawnee State University and earned three varsity letters in both cross country and track. In cross country he was part of three Mid-South Conference in 2011 and was a two-time conference Scholar Athlete. In track, Tyler was 1st team Mid-Southern conference in 2013, conference champions in the 4x800 relay, two-time Mid-Southern conference Scholar Athlete amd a 2013 NAIA Scholar Athlete.
