Carl graduated in 1993. He was an outstanding distance runner, earning four varsity letters in cross country and four in track. In cross country, Carl was first team All-League, All-District, and qualified for the Regionals all four years. He twice qualified for the State meet. He was his team’s Most Improved Runner his sophomore year and Most Valuable his junior and senior year.

He was a first team All-League two years and the league champion in the 800 run, 1600 run, and 3200 run during his senior year. He won District championships in the 800 and 1600 and also qualified for the Regionals in the 3200 during his senior year. He finished 6th at the State meet in the 800 Meter. He won his team’[s Most Outstanding Performer three times.

Carl attended Otterbein College and earned four letters in cross country, and three in track. He earned All-Conference honors three times in cross country and once in track. During his sophomore year he was ranked as high as 39th in the nation in cross country. He also received two Academic All American awards.
